Before motherhood I always thought "oh no, I won't get postpartum I'm stronger than that". Well let me tell you something, it's not all about strength or what you think you can handle. Depression and anxiety are not about weakness, a person can only handle so much. I'm not going to sit here and say oh yes I have horrible depression and my anxiety is crippling because they're not. Not everyone suffers from mental illness in the same way, we all deal with things differently.
Some days are better than others, some days I'm happier than others and some days I just want to curl up in a ball and stay in bed all day. Some times I find myself getting worked up about situations or changes that two years ago would have never bothered me and I'm learning how to handle these situations in a more appropriate manor than screaming or getting so overwhelmed that I cry.
I wish that I didn't feel like this but I'm only human. I think as a society we need to start talking about any kind of illness whether it is mental or physical, it's most certainly not anything to be ashamed of.
Please, if there is anything you need to talk about or voice this is a great place to do so. Thank you Billy for doing this, I think it's a great way to show people they're not alone and they don't ever need to go through anything alone.
Thank you Sarah! That was incredibly well said, and I'm sure that your honesty & insight will have a positive impact on someone who is also going through PPD.
